The press photographer Matti Tapola worked at Sanoma Oy nearly his entire career: he worked at Lehtikuva Oy from 1964 to 1969 and at Ilta-Sanomat from 1970 to 1996. His working years included important news events and international sports competitions. Working at a large newspaper also afforded him opportunities to take pictures abroad. Tapola was a dedicated newspaperman with a particular interest in sports photography.
